LAND OF MEDUSA

The first painted polymer clay relief based on a digital work where a photographic portrait of my wife was blended with a scanned detail of a fossilized landscape. Digital painting was used to emphasize the faces and forms I saw within the reference image. The title came well after completion and seemed a meaningful metaphor.

This was a journal entry made upon completion of the digital version of Land of Medusa:

Scratchy, scratchy, scratchy eyes, dry eyes with heavy lids gaze into image phosphors

An undulating and flickering solid that renders the body immobile

Visions from light reflections and shadows cast emerge from the mental trance

Phantasms carved in solid stone waiting to be discovered like a face on Mars
